While buying a washing machine you need to keep a few things in mind. No
matter how big a brand and the promotions they make, checks you need to make.
You need to consider your budget and what
type of machine are you looking for. Are you looking for a top loader, side
loader, without an agitator. A full machine will be expensive. If budget is a
constrain than go for a traditional no frill top loader.
You also need to consider if your laundry
room is a room or a corner. Machines are usually 24 to 30 inches wide. Measure
your space and also check if it will go through doorways and corridors and
hallways. Check if the front loaders door will bang into a wall every time you
open it.
If the laundry room is not in the basement
see that the floor it is on will bear the weight. Quieter models will reduce
the noise and vibration and if it will be seen by guests than go in for
fashionable machine.
Do you have a lot of clothes to wash than
go in for a large capacity machine without a central agitator, also check if
there are bells and alarms so the older children can help.
If you want to save water and electricity
than front loaders are the best. They use less water while traditional top
loaders fill water completely for wash and rinse. Take an energy model which
uses almost 25 to 30% less electricity. Check the energy guide in different
models, the cost of the machine may vary with it.
If you are always removing stains than top
loaders provide better results. Look to find a machine with soak, stain remover
features, also see if there is a cool temperature setting that mixes hot and
cold water dissolving the detergent completely for stain removal.
An agitator can entangle your clothes, if
you are very careful about the clothes than go in for machines which have
special programs for special clothes denims, towel, soft clothes etc. Check if
there is steam/hot water feature, stain removal, adjustable spins that will not
entangle clothes, and sanitizing cycles.
The tub should be made of stainless steel, plastic,
porcelain-enamel. The last two are cheaper and plastic tubs are more durable
than enamel. Enamel chips and rusts while steel is the best option and
withstand the high speed spins.
Wash settings are preset in the machines like gentle wash for delicate clothes etc, There are options for warm water, cold water, water level options, bleach, etc. select your options and set them on the screen usually a touch screen, touchpad or rotary control. Machine with rotary control is cheapest.
