Television
Television is an electronic device used to transmit images and sound. It
is a medium of mass news, entertainment and advertisement. It became popular in
the 1920s when TV was monochrome or B& W these versions were available in
USA and Britain. During WWII there were improvements and it was a common sight
in homes, business places and institutions.
In 1950 television became a medium through which the government could
influence public opinion. In 1960s the broadcasting on television became
colorful and it made its way into many developed nations. The television also
helped develop different types of storage devices like Betamax, VHS tape, DVDs,
local tapes, video recorders, flash drives, Bly-ray discs etc. These were used
to store movies, programmes and they could be used for remote retrieval.
By year 2000 the digital version of television had become popular. And
for the first time the television moved away from the standard definition
television to high definition or HDTV. These transmit images in 1080p, 1080i,
720p. Television has become easily accessible after 2010 and its availability
on the internet. The bulky cathode Ray Tube has been replaced with flat digital
screens and LCD, OLED, and plasma displays. Manufacturers have stopped building CRT displays now
it is only smart televisions which are internet ready and have web functions.
Television
signals were sent out via high frequency radio transmitters to broadcast
signals to the television receivers. Now everything is through satellites, fiber
cables, and the internet. A television now comes with a tuner to receive the
signal, have in built electronic circuits and also a decoder to decode the
broadcast signals.
